Although you may have taken trips together during your relationship, your honeymoon will be quite different. This will be your first trip together as husband and wife. You want the honeymoon trip to be perfect. You want everything to go smoothly.

There are always things that can go wrong on any trip. When you are planning your honeymoon trip, it should be one you both agree upon. There are a lot of places to go and a lot of options to consider. Take the time to research where you want to go. Make sure it is a place you want to go. You will have a budget but you do not want to go to a place just because it is cheap. This is supposed to be a memorable time for both of you.

Decide how much you want to spend on your honeymoon. If you make your reservations in advance and make the deposit by credit card, you can save the additional money you will need by the time of your wedding and departure date. Set aside the amount you need each month until the wedding.

If you plan to take a trip abroad, using a credit card on your trip may be economic. Credit card companies usually look for the best exchange rates in foreign currency. When you make your reservations through a travel agent, they can let the hotel or cruise line know you are on your honeymoon. The hotel or cruise line may add something extra to your room like a bottle of champagne or basket of fruit, and flowers. When we arranged for our daughter's wedding on Carnival Cruise Lines, there was a beautiful floral arrangement and fruit basket in their state room.

When is the best time to take your honeymoon? Many couples go on their honeymoon right after the wedding reception. There are a number of factors which may influence the timing of your honeymoon.

If you work, your wedding may be on a weekend and you may not be able to take the time off work to have an extended honeymoon. In this case you can take a long weekend together such as spending it in a luxury hotel suite or taking a short trip near your place of residence. If budget is a consideration, you may be able to get a good rate for a weekend stay. Your true honeymoon vacation will then be set for a later date.

Sometimes it is difficult to get reservations at the particular place you have in mind. You may want to wait until the vacation rush is over. This will give you a chance to settle into your new life together. You will probably save money if the destination is a tourist "low" season.
